Usually not. Most garden rooms are covered by permitted development when they stay within the limits on floor area, height and boundary distance and are not used as a separate home. Conservation areas, listed buildings and larger structures can need consent, so we assess your site first.
A PrefabX garden room starts from £25,000, fully fitted and installed, with monthly finance from around £160. Larger layouts with multiple rooms run higher, and every quote is a fixed all inclusive price with no fit out costs to follow.
You can sleep and live in a modular home comfortably, and many are used as annexes for family. Using one as a permanent independent dwelling can require planning permission and building regulations sign off, which we will guide you through depending on how you plan to use it.
The modular home shell is engineered for a 50 year lifespan, with a hot dip galvanised steel frame and a 10 year warranty on the structure and weatherproofing. That is well beyond a typical timber garden room, which is usually built to last a fraction of that.
